2019 WJLC Opens with Surprise Poland Win Over United States

The 2019 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship opened with a surprise win by Poland upsetting the 2018 Bronze Medal winning United States. 

Poland came hard out the gate scoring six (6) unanswered goals in the 1st Quarter. Poland’s hot start was led by a 1st Quarter hat-trick by Tyler Kolodka, who finished the game with 6 Goals on 12 Shots. 

The United States was able to get their bearings in the 2nd Quarter, winning the sessions 5-4, from evenly distributed scoring and 2 Power Play Goals. 

The 3rd Quarter was a stalemate seeing both Nations scoring 4 Goals respectively. Of the 8 Goals scored in the quarter, 6 Goals were Power Play opportunities, with 20 minutes in Penalties handed out by the officiating crew. 

The United States were never able to overcome their early deficit and were outscored in the 4th Quarter 6-5.The closest the United States would get to closing the goal differential was 4 Goals at multiple points in the game. In the game end, Poland defeated the United States by a final score of 20-14.

The Player of the Game for Poland with a Sock Trick 6 Goals was Tyler Kolodka, while the leading score for Poland was Lucas Ferreira with 2 Goals and 7 Assists. The Player of the Game for the United States was Colby Lensing with 2 Goals and 3 Assists. The United States was led in scoring by Christian Ronda with 3 Goals and 3 Assists.
