Day 2 Recap

CANADA 19 - SCOTTISH THISTLES 5

The Canadians had the first day of the five-team tournament off. Would their pent-up energy work for or against them as they faced off with the Thistles? It didn't take long to see that Canada was ready to play at a high pace. From Elliott's goal 1:16 after the opening whistle to one from Wattie nine and half minutes later, Canada dominated the first period to the tune of a 9-0 lead through 15 minutes.

Elliott wound up leading all scorers with 3 goals and 4 assists. Seven other players had 2 goals each for Canada, while defender Weatherby was named Canada's player of the game for his solid play all over the floor. Weatherby had a pair of assists in transition and helped the defence and goalie Dibattista to shut out the Thistles for the entire first half.

UNITED STATES 21 - AUSTRALIA 3

The US, knowing that Australia had showed steady improvement in their first game and would be looking to continue the momentum of a strong Saturday fourth quarter into the Sunday game, made sure to come out with plenty of energy against the Aussies.

That resulted in 6 American goals in the first eight minutes of play, with 3 of those coming from Wick. TJ Carl led all scorers with 8 points (3g/5a), while Benjamin Pousak and Rafael Katts each added 4 goals for the US.

Breakout Australian star Orlando Kernaghan, fresh off a Saturday hat trick, scored 2 of Australia's 3 goals in the game. That gives the 18-year-old from Seaview Downs, South Australia 8 goals in his last three World Juniors games, going back to last year.
