2024 WJLC Day 5 Recap

The Scottish Thistles and Canada finished off round robin play with wins to earn berths to Thursday's gold medal game while Poland and the United States will meet for bronze at the IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Day 5 Recap

SCOTTISH THISTLES 18 - POLAND 6

After almost 14 scoreless minutes, Scotland finally got on the board when Rusoski scored his first of 5 goals then Harless followed up with another 19 seconds before the end of the first quarter to launch the Scottish Thistles on the path to the win that ensured they will meet Canada in the championship game.

Scoring was slow to get going in the second quarter as well, with Jawor in the Scottish net and William Koza between the pipes for Poland both turning aside some quality chances. Ryan Voll made it a 2-1 game with 5:40 to play before halftime.

Then, the deluge. Rusoski scored 3 goals in 64 seconds then Millar added another before the intermission to vault the Scots into a 6-1 lead. The Thistles kept rolling, getting the first 2 goals of the third and outscoring Poland 7-3 in the quarter, allowing them to coast home with the win.

Rusoski added 3 assists to his 5 goals while Mastein also had a huge game for the Thistles with 3 goals and 5 assists.

Voll, Fisher Gadbois and Jesse Resnick all had 2 goals apiece to share the scoring for Poland.

Ruskoski received the Thistles' player of the game award and Gadbois for Poland.

CANADA 22 - AUSTRALIA 2

Canada's transition game kept racing, with defenders Saggu and Grehan both scoring hat tricks and adding an assist each. Myers scored 4 goals while Smith wound up tied for the round robin goals and points leads with 14 and 22, respectively after putting up 3 of each against the Aussies.

Jack Cornish broke up Horbay's shutout bid with a low outside rip midway through the fourth quarter and Rocco Filia added one for Australia just 17 seconds from the final buzzer.

Saggu was named player of the game for Canada and Adam Smedley earned the honours for Australia.
