Australia Adds Jim Milligan as Assistant Coach

MELBOURNE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA - Australia is pleased to announce and welcome Jim Milligan as Assistant Coach for the 2019 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship. "Jim will bring his experience as both an offensive and defensive coach at a high level to our young Australian group." Said Ric Benedierks, Australia General Manager. "Jim has extensive experience developing players from professional and senior to the youth level, with an emphasis on team and skill development for box lacrosse." Added Benedierks.
Milligan has worked in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) since 2003. His assistant coaching roles have included time with the Edmonton Rush (2005 - 2007), Chicago Shamrox (2008), Toronto Rock (2009), Philadelphia Wings (2011 - 2014), New England Black Wolves (2015), and Vancouver Stealth (2016 - 2018).
The Peterborough, Ontario, Canada native was offensive co-ordinator with the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Peterborough Lakers from 2004 to 2014 and became Assistant General Manager in 2011. During that his time with the Lakers, Milligan won five (5) Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) Mann Cups and six (6) MSL League Championships. The move to western Canada in 2017 also brought experince in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) as Head Coach and General Manager of the Burnaby Lakers. Internationally, Milligan served on the CLA Team Canada staff for the 2011 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championship (senior) winning the Gold Medal in Prague, Czech Republic.
As a junior player Milligan won three (3) Minto Cups with the Peterborough Lansdowne Maulers in 1986, 1987, and 1989 and accumulated 38 Goals and 91 Assists for 129 Points in 128 Regular Season and Playoff Games Played.
As a senior player Milligan had an expansive career lasting thirteen (13) MSL seasons from 1990 to 2003 playing for the Peterborough Lakers, Brooklin Redmen, and Six Nations Chiefs. Milligan player 149 Regular Season and Playoff Games recording 45 Goals and 73 Assists for 118 Points and accumulated 216 Penalty Minutes.
