Israel Fills the Net in World Junior Lacrosse Championship Opener

Israel kicked off the 2022 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship with a win on Monday (August 8) in Winnipeg, MB.

Josh Yachney (3G, 2A) opened the scoring at the Canada Life Centre just eight seconds into the game, before adding another a couple minutes later, setting the tone for Israel's 17-10 win over Poland on day one of the tournament.

Poland would bring the game within two in the second quarter thanks to goals from Evan Fielding (2G, 1A) and Cohen Cheung (2G, 1A), but the second half was when Israel ran away with the contest.

The goals didn't stop in the second half as Israel went on a 6-0 run thanks in large part to Nick Mckee who had a seven-point night. Ari Weiss, Justin Charlton and Will Adams all added a pair of goals in their tournament opener. Ayden Tawiaka had two goals and two assists to lead Poland in scoring.

Jackson Hainer stopped 43/53 in the win. Brendan Godwin allowed 17 goals on 50 shots in the loss.

Mckee was named the player of the game for Israel, Fielding for Poland.

Next up, Israel will face Haudenosaunee on Tuesday (Aug.9), while Poland will take on Haudenosaunee on Thursday (Aug.11) at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg. The games can be seen on the TSN app, streaming on TSN Direct and on TSN.ca.
