United States Name Oliver Marti Offensive Coach for 2019 WJLC

NEW YORK, NY - US Indoor Lacrosse (USIL) announced Oliver Marti as the Offensive Coach of the 2019 U20 USA Junior Indoor Team which will compete in the 2019 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship. Marti, a former Team Canada player and National Lacrosse League (NLL) player, joined forces with Roy Colsey’s American Lacrosse Academy in 2017 to help develop and grow the game of box lacrosse in the US and currently serves as Coach for the Superstar‘s Box Teams. 

Marti attended and graduated Brown University, playing under Coach Dom Starsia. As a member of the Brown Men’s Lacrosse team he was a two time All-American and All-Ivy setting NCAA records that still stand today for most goals, most points in a regular season game and most goals in an NCAA playoff game. He currently ranks fifth all time in NCAA history in average goals per game in a career. With his leadership and scoring ability, Marti led the Ivy in goals and helped Brown win the Ivy League Championship in his first season. He is a member of the Brown Hall of Fame. Marti went on to play an important part of the 1994 Canadian National team capturing the Bronze medal in Manchester England, where Marti was named MVP in the Bronze medal game as they defeated England 25-10. 

Oliver is a seasoned box player, having played growing up in Canada. He was a member of the Richmond Outlaws Junior A (BCJALL) and New Westminster Salmonbellies Senior A (WLA) box lacrosse teams, competing in two Minto Cup finals and the Mann Cup in 1992. In 1994, Oliver was drafted and played in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL, now known as the NLL) for the New York Saints.

Oliver brings a wealth of box lacrosse knowledge and a keen ability to recruit and evaluate talent for the U20 USA Junior Indoor Team. Oliver’s role with US Indoor Lacrosse will be critical in recruiting and developing a competitive roster for the 2019 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship”, said Head Coach Roy Colsey. 

“The rate at which US box lacrosse athletes are developing the abilities of playing in tight situations, playing more physical, reacting quicker and improving their stick skills is explosive. The United States is becoming a force to reckon with in box lacrosse and am excited to have been selected by Coach Colsey, a phenomenal talent and one of the brightest minds in the game today”, stated Marti. 

The 2019 IIJL World Junior Lacrosse Championship will take place at the First Ontario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario Canada on August 6-11, 2019, featuring Australia, Canada, Iroquois, Israel, and United States with a sixth and final Nation being announced in the coming weeks. 

The final USIL USA Junior Indoor Team roster will be comprised of talented, up-and-coming lacrosse players who have a strong worth ethic, willingness to work within a team, and help further the progress of box lacrosse in the US. Final tryouts will be held May 26, 2019, in Downingtown, PA.
